Selah Charles has been an incredibly strong supporter and encourager of the Houghton Women’s Volleyball team since day one. While she is not particularly outspoken, she has a way of creating strong bonds through heartfelt connection and thoughtful conversation. She encourages our team athletically, emotionally and spiritually, but she can also be heard encouraging her teammates academically, especially on long bus rides home when everyone is stressed about catching up on missed work or finishing homework before quickly approaching deadlines. She is someone who genuinely invests in the people around her and makes an effort to support them in all areas of life.
An aspiring physician assistant, Selah is currently balancing the demands of earning her degree while also serving as an Resident Assistant on campus. Despite having plenty on her own plate, she never seems to let her busy schedule keep her from pouring into others. As I write this, I honestly cannot even count the number of people, both on and off the team, who would agree that Selah is a constant, steady and loving presence in their lives. She is a shoulder to cry on, someone who will always be there to laugh at your jokes and a person who makes time for others even when life gets busy. She has a unique ability to make people feel heard, valued and genuinely cared for.
Selah is humble in the way she carries herself and generous with her time and energy. I think this speaks volumes about the strength of her relationship with God and the way she allows her faith to shape how she loves others. We are so blessed to have such a loyal, positive presence on our team. We love you Selah! ★
